Congressman John R. Lewis Election Day
Throughout his entire life, Civil Rights icon Congressman John Lewis put his body, freedom, and life on the line in the pursuit of justice, civil rights, and equal access to the ballot box.
In honor of Congresswoman Lewis, Representative Joyce Beatty introduced the Congressman John R. Lewis Election Day Act of 2020, H.R. 7820. The legislation will make this election day, November 3, 2020, a national holiday.
It is up to all of us to continue Congressman Lewis’s lifelong work to build brighter futures for all Americans. That begins by ensuring every voter can freely, easily, and expeditiously cast their ballot this upcoming election.
Like Representative Lewis said, every vote counts. It’s a way to say to America and to the world that we want to go forward, and not backward. The vote is the most powerful non-violent tool we have in a democratic society. Our democratic institutions must be protected to make sure every voter in Ohio’s Third Congressional District and the country is able to make their voice heard.
